Google Maps API Setup

One-time setup for the cPanel/shared-hosting build. No Node.js, terminal access or database is required on the server.

Google Cloud setup

1
Use a billing-enabled Google Cloud project

Google Maps Platform requires a Cloud project and billing for production use.

2
Enable Maps JavaScript API

This powers the interactive base map, Street View and advanced markers.

3
Enable Places UI Kit

The directory uses Places UI Kit for nearby place lists and place details rather than maintaining a local places database.

4
Enable Places API (New)

The search bar uses Google's current Place Autocomplete widget and restricts suggestions to the Greater Tzaneen search area.

5
Create a browser API key

Use Websites (HTTP referrers) as the application restriction. Do not use an IP-address restriction for a browser Maps JavaScript key.

Open Credentials
6
Restrict the key to this website

Add the production hostname(s) below as allowed website referrers.

https://tzaneentourism.co.za/*
https://www.tzaneentourism.co.za/*
7
Apply API restrictions

Restrict the browser key to the Google Maps Platform products used here: Maps JavaScript API, Places UI Kit and Places API (New).

Latest API loading method: this build uses Google Maps JavaScript API dynamic library import with the weekly channel, plus Advanced Markers, the current Place Autocomplete widget and Places UI Kit elements.

Connect this installation

This installer is locked.

The application has already been configured. Open the directory to test the map.

To deliberately run setup again, delete config/install.lock in cPanel File Manager, then refresh this page.
